Using NDIS funding

Personal alarms are classified as Assistive Technology (AT) and can be included in your NDIS plan.

For eligible participants, your NDIS plan will cover the cost of the alarm and monitoring service with no out-of-pocket expenses. We will invoice the NDIS directly.

We offer a special rate for NDIS funded clients to help you extend your funding further.

Testimonials

Hear from our clients

Before the MePACS Education Session, my team was unaware of the vast array of falls detection and alert devices that MePACS now offers.

Since the MePACS Education Session, the team has expressed excitement about the available devices and has been discussing their suitability for particular clients. MePACS was happy to answer the team's questions and discuss how MePACS can support our clients in remaining safe in their homes for longer.

It doesn’t matter what age you are, MePACS is a lifesaver. If you’ve got a medical condition, disability or you’re prone to falls, it is essential to have a personal alarm for your safety.

NDIS Funded Alarm FAQs

Am I eligible to receive a personal alarm through the NDIS?

To be eligible for the NDIS, you must:

- Be aged between 9 and 65

- Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or Protected Special Category Visa holder

- Live in Australia

- Have a disability caused by a permanent impairment. The impairment may be intellectual, cognitive, neurological, sensory, physical, or psychosocial.

- Meet the early intervention requirements

If you meet these requirements, you may be able to include a personal alarm device in your NDIS plan. MePACS is an authorised NDIS provider for personal alarms which fall under the Assistive Technology or Consumables funding categories. If your goals are centred on independence, safety, or social inclusion, a MePACS alarm will help you achieve those goals and should be written into your plan.

What are the options for managing my NDIS plan?

There are several ways to manage your NDIS funding:

- Self-management: Self-management is when you take control of your NDIS funding, allowing you the freedom and flexibility to choose the supports that align with your goals.

- Plan-managed: Plan management involves working with a registered provider who helps oversee your funding. They can purchase NDIS supports for you using the funds allocated in your plan.

- Agency-managed: Agency-managed means the NDIA takes care of managing your funds. They handle payments directly to registered providers for services using the funds allocated in your plan.

Can I just order an alarm directly through MePACS?

If you self-manage your funds, we can organise payment directly with you. You can then claim reimbursement from the NDIA.

Do I need a quote or letter from an OT to purchase a personal alarm with my NDIS funding?

While it is sometimes a requirement of your plan manager to have a letter of support from your OT to fund a personal alarm, at MePACS we only require our online application form to be completed with all the information containing your funding details relating to your plan.

Do I need a specialised AT assessment to obtain a personal alarm?

You do not need to provide the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) with Assistive Technology Assessor assessments, reports and/or quotes before you buy Basic (Level 1) or Standard (Level 2) Assistive Technology. Personal alarms are considered Standard (Level 2) Assistive Technology.

Is the Solo Connect covered by the NDIS?

Yes. Eligible NDIS participants can access funding for all MePACS alarms, including monitoring.

Is the Solo Connect a smartwatch?

No. The Solo Connect is a dedicated personal alarm device, not a smartwatch for everyday use.

Unlike a smartwatch, the Solo Connect is designed solely to provide emergency support and can't be used as an entertainment device. It can only be used to communicate directly with the MePACS emergency response team.

This focus on personal safety aligns with the goals of supporting independence and wellbeing, making Solo Connect a valuable option for NDIS participants.

What are nominated contacts and how many do I need?

Nominated contacts are people who you trust and can assist you in an emergency. They should be available and willing to assist you.

Nominated contacts can be family members, friends or trusted neighbours. They should have access to your home, or you may choose to have a key safe for easy access.

In an emergency, MePACS may call your nominated contacts to check on your welfare during the day or night.

You can nominate up to three people as your contacts. While we prefer to have at least one nominated contact on your file, don't worry if you're unable to provide one—we will still be happy to welcome you to the MePACS family.
