Who is eligible for PAASA
PAASA Approved Alarms
Up to $200 per year for approved monitoring services.

Please note that some falls may not be detected, i.e. a roll or slow slump to the ground or if the fall was broken by an object, such as a chair.

How to apply for a PAASA funded alarm
A registered health professional must complete Section G.

PAASA Funded Alarm FAQs
To qualify for a personal alarm through PAASA, you must:
- Be 75 years or older (or 65+ if Aboriginal)
- Hold a Centrelink or DVA Pensioner Concession Card
- Have completed an assessment with My Aged Care, and be approved for one of the following:
• Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)
• Level 1 Home Care Package (HCP)
• Ineligible for HCP or CHSP
- Be a permanent resident of South Australia
- Meet the specified clinical, functional, and social criteria requirements.
A registered health professional must confirm that you meet ALL of the clinical and functional criteria.
Clinical Criteria:
- High risk of falling
- Have a chronic medical condition requiring emergency response
Functional Criteria:
- Able to physically and cognitively use and operate the alert system
- Willing to wear the alert system and activate it when needed
Social Criteria: You must meet at least one of the following:
- Live alone
- Be alone for at least five consecutive hours, four times a week
- Live with someone who cannot use a phone in case of an emergency
- Individuals who have not completed an assessment with My Aged Care
- Those approved for a level 2–4 Home Care Package (HCP)
- Individuals who have declined a Home Care Package (HCP) or Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)
- Participants in the Transition Care Programme (TCP)
- Veterans or surviving spouses who qualify under the DVA Rehabilitation Appliances Program
- Holders of a DVA Gold Card
- People living independently in a retirement village where a personal alert system or similar service is part of the residence contract
- Residents of supported accommodation, such as supported residential facilities or aged care homes
The health professional you select must be one of these:
- A registered medical practitioner or general practitioner (GP)
- A nurse practitioner or registered nurse
- A registered occupational therapist
You must submit your application within 12 weeks of the registered health professional completing Section G.
Approved applicants can purchase a system from an approved supplier.
All PAASA alarms:
- are 4G compatible
- have falls detection
- are monitored
- have SIM cards
PAASA will contribute up to $380 towards the purchase and installation of an approved alert system. If the total cost exceeds $380, you will be responsible for paying the difference directly to the supplier. Only one PAASA-funded alert system is available per household.
PAASA will contribute up to $200 per year towards monitoring costs, which will be paid directly to your approved supplier. If the total charges exceed $200, you will be responsible for paying the difference directly to the supplier.
If you bought a device over five years ago, you may qualifyto apply for an upgraded version.
